Cadence, helmed by the renowned Shenarri Freeman, a nominee for the prestigious James Beard Award, is a remarkable restaurant that masterfully combines intentional Southern-inspired design and an inviting atmosphere. A haven for both celebrities and discerning patrons, Cadence aims to deliver soul food that is simultaneously nourishing and indulgent.

From the moment you step inside, the ambience transports you to an upscale southern dining experience reminiscent of the Olde Pink House in Savannah, Georgia—an establishment renowned for its culinary prowess. The menu at Cadence is so enticing that you'll find yourself wanting to order every dish, and we wholeheartedly encourage you to indulge. Any uneaten leftovers can be savored the following day, as the flavors are simply too remarkable to be missed.

During our visit, we had the pleasure of trying an array of delectable creations. The jerk mac & cheese, maple buttermilk cornbread, palm cake, biscuits & gravy, smoked grits, buffalo oyster mushroom sandwich, fried oyster mushroom & waffles, southern fried lasagna, lemon olive oil cake, and the Cadence cobbler all graced our palates.

Before delving into the standout dishes, it is imperative to highlight the masterful construction of these flavors. Each dish exhibits a depth of flavor and expertly incorporates small, yet transformative, ingredients that elevate them from good to truly exceptional. From the very first bite, it is evident that no detail has been spared in the creation of these culinary delights.

Let us begin with the cornbread, a source of contention among many discerning palates. This Cornbread, however, is a revelation—a moist, cast-iron-baked marvel, generously drizzled with maple syrup and accompanied by an apple compote that elevates it to new heights. The desire for more was palpable once we had finished this superb creation. Another standout was the palm cake, crafted from chickpeas and adorned with a house-made coleslaw that perfectly complements its flavors. Reminiscent of crab cakes, the palm cake boasts an impeccable balance of crispy texture, tender interior, and well-seasoned profile. The coleslaw was a delightful addition to this entree.

The buffalo oyster mushroom sandwich, which sat within a pretzel bun, captivated our senses with its impeccable balance of spicy and sweet buffalo sauce. The delicate, melt-in-your-mouth bread flawlessly enveloped the oyster mushroom—a sublime choice that provided a satisfying texture. The oyster mushroom and waffles, featuring the same delectably seasoned mushroom, showcased the delightful juxtaposition of salt and sweetness. Set atop a pillowy soft waffle, this dish harmonized protein and waffle seamlessly, further enhanced by a house-made syrup that elevated its flavor profile.

The lemon olive oil cake, initially approached with trepidation, turned out to be a delightful surprise. Light, airy, and accompanied by exquisite coconut ice cream and a delectable raspberry sauce, this dessert proved to be a beautiful culmination of simplicity and taste—a truly marvelous treat for any occasion.

Undoubtedly, one of the restaurant's most beloved dishes is the fried lasagna—an imaginative twist on the classic dish. The lasagna, rolled like sausage and stuffed with all the fixings, undergoes a transformative deep-frying process that imparts a tantalizing crunch while preserving its exceptional flavors.
