Scoops of Joy: Navigating Salt & Straw's Vegan Ice Cream Options

Salt & Straw, celebrated for its innovative ice cream flavors, has wholeheartedly embraced the vegan movement with a diverse lineup that goes beyond the ordinary. During our recent visit to their Los Angeles Location, we had the pleasure of savoring the Bananas Foster, a unique creation that left our taste buds dancing with delight.

Among the impressive vegan options available are: Toasted Oat Milk & Cookies, Red Velvet Cake w/ Cream Cheese Frosting, Bananas Foster w/ Candied Pecans, Marionberry Oatmeal Cobbler, Death By Chocolate Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge, Roasted Pineapple Coconut Sherbet, and Marionberry Coconut Sherbet.

Salt & Straw kickstarts the process of crafting the Bananas Foster ice cream with a reduction of rum, brown sugar, and spices, and infusing it into a delicate coconut cream base. The result is a creamy and rich masterpiece that elevates the classic dessert. The infusion of banana goodness, coupled with the delightful crunch of candied pecans, added layers of flavor that kept us coming back for more. We would highly recommend this flavor.

Salt & Straw has undoubtedly evolved since our first encounter with their ice cream nearly 8 years ago at their original Portland location. Their dedication to expanding vegan options is commendable, offering a plant-based experience that stands shoulder to shoulder with its non-vegan counterparts.

Nevertheless, amid the delight of our experience, a lone letdown surfaced – the absence of a vegan waffle cone. In an age where veganism is on the rise, we urge Salt & Straw to broaden their dedication across every facet of the ice cream experience. The inclusion of a vegan-friendly cone is pivotal, serving as the perfect finishing touch to complement their already stellar array of vegan offerings.

Despite this minor setback, we appreciate Salt & Straw's strides in catering to diverse dietary preferences. The Bananas Foster flavor, with its luscious texture and bold flavors, shows the world that vegan ice cream can be just as indulgent and satisfying as dairy options. We eagerly anticipate Salt & Straw's continued innovation and hope they continue pushing the boundaries of plant-based ice cream excellence.
